Erika brings a diverse background of engineering, intellectual property protection and strategy, academia and technology commercialization experience to PCK.

Before attending law school, Erika obtained undergraduate and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo where her research focused on studying small molecule delivery in a stem cell differentiation model using proteomics and developing software applications for robotic long-term live cell imaging. After 10 years of engineering, Erika then obtained a law degree from Osgoode Hall. Since being called to the Bar in Ontario, Erika has practiced exclusively in the area of intellectual property law. Erika has also founded a technology company and then became part of the executive team of a larger company in that space.

Erika has experience in many areas of intellectual property law, including patent prosecution and licensing, trademarks, design protection and litigation. As a lawyer at the firm, Erika combines her passion for innovation and commercialization, by counseling clients through invention mining, IP filing and licensing strategies, branding and overall informed IP focused decision-making for a global marketplace.

Erika’s commitment to mentorship and giving back to the community is unparalleled by her involvement at the committee, start-up, academic, advisory and pro-bono levels.  In academia, Erika has held an ongoing Adjunct appointment at Ryerson University teaching Environmental Law since 2016. She is a dedicated advisor to the University of Toronto’s Hatchery, pro-bono legal mentor at Ryerson University iBoost and Legal Innovation Zones, as well is a Waterloo Communitech Fierce Founder.
